Web site Design issues and User Errors.
Often in the process of user interaction with a particular site error occur that may cost the company lost customers. As a result, creating a web design for a company’s website is always important so that it minimizes the possibility of user errors.
Most often, errors occur when users have to perform some action on the site, for example, add a product to a basket or order a service, subscribe to an e-mail newsletter, post a review, send some request to the administration, etc. And if the method the required action is not well understood by users or if the interaction scheme with the site is too different from the usual models, then the incorrectly designed web design of such a site should be blamed for user errors.
To prevent interaction errors, web site design should answer the user two basic questions: “How to use one or another tool on the site to achieve the goal?” And “Does the tool work as expected?” And you should not expect that users will try to learn how to work with the site correctly, have not received their answers, because they always have a very simple way to avoid any problems – go to another site. So here are a few basic aspects of web design that you should pay attention to in the fight against user errors.
The complexity and unusual design.
Creative design is highly appreciated in the creation of sites because it helps to create unique and memorable solutions. However, when such a design prevents the site from effectively performing its tasks, it should be reviewed. After all, it is not in vain that certain standards exist in web design: when users see similar models of interaction on sites they have worked with before, they successfully apply them on each subsequent site without fear of making mistakes.
Thanks to the already mentioned web design standards, the underlined blue font is perceived by users as a signal that the text made in such a font is a link. And users who are “illuminated” by a shadow and seemingly protruding rectangle above the page “read” like a button and, of course, try to click. If such expectations are not met, users believe that an error has occurred, and will continue to try to click on the “link” or “button”, without even realizing that these are completely different elements.
Lack of preview.
If a user must take several steps to perform a targeted action on a site, he should be given the opportunity to make sure before making a final decision that everything is done correctly. For this, the preview option is useful in many cases. If you take the example of an online store, then, in this case, you should give the user the opportunity to see all the added products, the total amount of the order and personal data so that he can check if everything is filled out correctly.
Having embodied exactly the interaction scenario that will be logical and understandable for users in the site design, it is possible to achieve that there will be fewer errors when working with the site. This means that the site will be able to work more efficiently, giving a higher conversion and, as a result, a higher profit for the company.
