SEO in Dubai as of 2019
From the author: it’s worth following some traditions, our annual tradition to publish updates about SEO Status definitely refers to those. At the beginning of each year, we get acquainted with the most interesting trends and new products for the coming months. Here are five recent changes regarding SEO 2019.
Table of Contents
Expanded results are not going anywhere
Search Results Pages (SERPs) don’t look exactly like they did a few years ago. Currently, we see much more “advanced results” (also known as “advanced snippets”). These results display additional information, such as ratings, timestamps, or image carousels.
In 2019, the volume of advanced results will increase as more and more websites start using structured data (which are used to create advanced results). Keep up! A “classic” search result cannot compete with an advanced one, since it has a much lower percentage of conversions, and in our time this will cost you many visitors.
Google came to the rescue and released a new tool for checking advanced snippets, which will help to find out if your page falls into the category of advanced results.
Page loading speed on mobile is of utmost importance
It’s no secret that websites that load faster can boast a higher conversion rate than their slow counterparts. Visitors do not like to wait. If the page loads for five seconds or more, most visitors will simply leave it.
Of course, Google takes into account the page loading speed, although earlier it only took into account search results on stationary devices.
Starting in July 2019, page loading speed will also affect mobile search rankings. In the beginning, this change will affect a small percentage of requests, because it will rather determine the “punishment” of slow pages, rather than the “promotion” of fast ones.
However, here are some things you can do to optimize your site:
Minimize the number of HTTP requests
Activate gzip compression
Enable caching
Reduce HTML, CSS and Javascript Files
Expect Better AJAX Content Scanning
AJAX allows you to dynamically refresh parts of a website without reloading the page. This approach has several advantages: first of all, accelerated response time, and the highest degree of interactivity.
Web sites that use AJAX to load content have always become a problem for search engines (this is still very softly said). But over time, Google engineers have significantly improved the quality of JavaScript for search engines.
Starting in the second quarter of 2019, you will no longer have to provide a display version for Google. Googlebot will display the URL with #! directly. I recommend checking the process of scanning and displaying through the Search Console on your own for problematic issues.
Cars are learning
Search engines use a huge amount of data: crawl information, user searches, percentage of clicks from SERP, etc. Machine learning helps them use this data to improve the relevance of search results.
What you can do in 2019: help AI understand the content of the page. Structured data plays a key role in this process. Structured data is code snippets that identify pieces of information on a page. For example: whether a sequence of digits is a telephone or fax number. At schema.org you can learn more about implementing this code.
This used to be technical. But machine learning also has a UX component. Imagine the following: the user clicks on the search result and after three seconds clicks on the Back button. Do you think this is a positive signal in the eyes of the search engine? Of course not? The time spent on the site is too short.
For this reason, you should focus on improving your user experience. Ensure that the content is consistent with the user’s intentions, that the page loads quickly, is optimized for mobile devices and the like.
Take the time to develop the brand
Search engines use link networks to determine the credibility of a site – this is no secret. But modern search engines also pay attention to “brand mentions” as signals for trust.
For example: let’s say there is a brand called “FunkyKitchen” and it is often mentioned on pages about kitchen design, custom kitchens, and kitchen planning. Search engines will recognize the connection between this brand and these topics, that is, classic marketing techniques (promoting your brand without emphasis on the linguistic building) can help you improve your ranking.
What has not changed?
Key features will remain unchanged. Make sure you create compelling content that matches the user’s intentions. Also make sure that the content is easily accessible to visitors (responsive design, page speed …) and visible to search engines.
And the last, but no less important fact: links will remain a significant factor in determining the credibility of your site, even in 2019.
