To solve the problem, webmasters use various techniques, such as excluding pagination pages from the index or adding the rel = “canonical” meta tag to the main page.
As you can see, both of the above methods in web design for presenting a large amount of data on web pages have both their pros and cons. And it is impossible to unequivocally determine that some method is really better than another. But the competent use of any of the methods in web design allows us to reduce the existing disadvantages to almost zero while effectively using the advantages.
So, first of all, the feasibility of using endless scrolling or pagination should be considered taking into account the type of site. For example, pagination shows itself better on commercial sites, but endless scrolling is convenient for infotainment projects, social networks.
The second important nuance is the search for a compromise between the pros and cons of the chosen approach. For example, if endless scrolling prevents users from finding specific objects in a large data stream, you can invite them to bookmark, and if paginating users have to wait a long time for the page to load, then you can use AJAX techniques that will allow you to not reload the page completely.
In conclusion, it can be noted that many sites today do not use pagination or endless scrolling separately, but a combination of these methods for the most convenient presentation of data. In this case, users are given the opportunity to either use pagination or load the next piece of data without completely reloading the page, and each user decides what is more convenient for him to do.
