From the author: Hello everyone. Today I will show you how to check the relevance of a page. Relevance is a very important factor in the text parameter, if we are talking about SEO copywriting, that is, optimizing content for search engines. It determines how well the text is tailored for a particular phrase. If it’s good, then in the future we can expect an influx of people from the search who will enter exactly this phrase in the line.
So, there are at least a few services where you can check the relevance, but if we are talking about a simple free analysis, the service from MEgaindex is best suited, it is located here at audit.megaindex.ru/audit/relevant_page/.
So, to check the relevance, you need to enter the URL of the page we are checking, as well as a phrase or request, based on which the parameter is evaluated. This is usually the main key under which you sharpen the article.
To make it clearer, I suggest taking one of my articles as an example. For example, this one. I decided it was better to criticize yourself than anyone else. So this is the URL of the page. What about the request? The main key, in this case, will be: “bootstrap menu”.
Here I will enter such data, now it remains to wait a couple of seconds and the service will show the result.
Well, the relevance of the page to the keyword phrase “bootstrap menu” is 83%. This is a good indicator. Everything above 70% can be considered a good indicator. Here you will be shown statistics on the occurrence of words from the query, meeting the criteria, and just below – the total number of words in the text.
It would seem that we can end the article on this because we have learned to check relevance. But it would be nice to analyze in detail the criteria that Megaindex stands out. As you can see, they differ in the degree of importance. We will analyze the most critical first, here they are:
The first criterion is the resolution of indexing the whole page. It is clear that without it, simply nowhere, because if indexing is prohibited, the page simply will not appear in the search, and why then all these efforts to optimize it?
The second and third criteria determine whether there is a key phrase in the heading (meaning title) and in the text itself. The one that we enter in the “request” field. Without this, it will also be extremely difficult to see your article at least in the TOP-10 with the necessary keys.
Further, we have very important criteria, here they are:
Their observance is very important, especially the first two points. Namely, in no case should spam be allowed in the heading and the text itself. Spam or re-optimization is an attempt to trick a search engine by pushing too many keys into the text, hoping to get more benefit from it. But in fact, you are only doing worse for your site, because you can get a lower position in the search, even for those pages where you did not allow spam.
An easy way to check for spam is to check for academic nausea. This parameter should not be more than 9% and nausea for a word – no more than 4%.
The service also shows that it is extremely important to have a passphrase in h1 (the main title of the page), even in the exact entry. Regarding the availability of completely agree, it should be, but the exact entry, in my opinion, is not necessary. But if the title does not lose its naturalness, the exact occurrence of the phrase in it is quite appropriate.
What’s next for us? No problems in formatting content and text size. So, right about the size. It is believed that the amount of text on the page should be from 300-400 words so that there are chances to get to a less prominent place in the search.
Here you need to remember that the more the better. This is just the minimum threshold, but in fact, you can write more. The main thing is that the quality of the text does not suffer and it is interesting to read.
Formatting problems are problems directly related to the HTML markup of the article. This is a very important component. Imagine two identical publications, they differ only in how they were issued:
In one publication, everything is divided into short paragraphs, using subheadings, pictures, lists, and other elements as necessary.
The other is a continuous canvas of text.
What article do you think will be read? Naturally, the first. The second one simply has no chance to be better, no matter how interesting and useful it is.
We are going to reduce their importance. The following criteria are also considered important by the service, let’s discuss them.
So, the first is the presence of a key phrase in the alt attribute of the picture. At the same time, there is no need (and even forbidden) to write this phrase to each picture, but only to one. And then, only if it does not look like spam.
In my experience, this affects very little. I have different articles. Somewhere the key phrase is written in alt, somewhere not. I did not notice much difference. So, I would not call this criterion important, you can fulfill it at will.
Static URL – and this, in my opinion, is very important. What is a static URL? This is when the page address does not change, you publish an article once and it is always available at one address. This is exactly how it should be, otherwise, it will be difficult for a search robot to index pages if they constantly “move” to a new place.
The key phrase in URL is another criterion for determining relevance. I think it’s better to do it. In the WordPress engine, this is solved by installing a single plugin, as well as changing the permalink settings. Most optimally, when the page address looks like this: http: // site-address / post-name
It is also believed that it is best to use only Latin characters in URL. For this, plugins like Cyr to Lat are installed, which convert the article title from Cyrillic to Latin and substitute it in URL.
More than one h1. This is the opposite of what does not need to be performed. H1 is the main title of the entry. It should be 1 per page. This is an important requirement, try to comply with it. For subtitles, use h2, h3. Also check through which tag the headers in widgets, header, footer, etc. are displayed.
The presence of a key phrase in the description (description of the page) and keywords. These are the last 2 criteria. To fulfill them or not is up to you. The keywords meta-tag has long been deprecated and is now almost never used. Accordingly, I also refused it and this did not affect the positions of my articles.
The description is another matter, as this meta tag is still considered important. You can enter a key phrase in it, I do not always do this. There is no urgent need for this.
Of these three, I see the point in describing only the first, the other two are simply irrelevant, as it seems to me. So this is the length of the URL. It is believed that if it is more than 70-100 characters, then this is not optimal. In principle, this is logical. Therefore, try to use short and understandable addresses.
Well, it seems that on this we examined the main points that directly affect relevance. Try to adhere to all the rules that we have reviewed, and your publications will probably get in the top with the keys you need over time.
Of course, we considered everything only from the point of view of one service on the Megaindex website. If you check the relevance on another site, you may be given other recommendations, but still, the general rules will always be the same.
For example, there is an opinion that it’s nice to add a key phrase to the subtitle, and in the text itself, it should be as close to the beginning as possible. As you can see, our service was silent about these details. But is this really critical?
I’ll tell you that there can be a lot of opinions on the question of how to properly optimize articles for search engines and there is no absolute truth anywhere. I just suggest that you use a set of basic rules and recommendations, you can get additional chips if you study the website promotion in-depth.
For example, a lot of useful information can be found in our course on promoting personal blogs from scratch to first income. From it, you will also learn about how to properly configure the site so that there are no problems with promotion.
