Currently, even very complex animations on sites no longer surprise anyone, because the number of sites that have various animation effects on their pages is just off the charts. Nevertheless, the question of the appropriateness of placing animations on sites remains open today: do we really need animation for the site, or is it just a tribute to fashion?
Modern Internet users are very sophisticated and strive not only to find answers to their questions on the Internet, but also to combine search with entertainment. It turns out that sites that, along with the necessary information, can provide their visitors with some entertainment functions, have some advantage over sites that do not have such functions.
On the site plays just an entertaining role, allowing visitors not only to follow the links on the pages but also to enjoy the process itself. Visitors keen on animation tend to linger on sites longer, eventually leaning towards a very positive assessment of the site. As a result, animation becomes an additional means of retaining visitors to the site.
There are many technologies for creating animation today. For example, you can create animated effects on the site using gif or flash, or you can use the built-in capabilities of HTML5, CSS3, and jQuery. Each of these technologies has its advantages and disadvantages, but still, the final choice in favor of some of them is always very individual, because a lot depends on the subject of a particular site and its structure, as well as on the tasks assigned to the site.
Thus, the animation for the site can be beneficial and become its main “trump card“. But if the animation present on the sites had only “pluses”, then today all sites would be completely animated. This, as you can see, does not happen, for which there is a completely rational explanation: animation is not appropriate in all cases and there are sites on which a large amount of animation could interfere with the implementation of their basic functions.
For example, it is not recommended to use a large number of animation effects on the sites of government agencies or enterprises, research institutes, etc. The target audience of such sites, as a rule, is not aimed at entertainment, but at solving important issues, therefore, the distracting effect of animation may negatively affect the opinions of visitors to these sites.
At the same time, the sites of various creative teams, the sites of designers, photographers, musicians and other specialists involved in creativity, can afford an abundance of animation. And in moderate amounts, animation effects will find applications also on the pages of ordinary online stores, and on websites representing small companies.
Thus, the animation on the pages of the site is useful in different cases, but its use should be determined by objective reasons, and not by a simple desire to add several moving design elements to the site. Then the effectiveness of using animation on the website’s web design will be high, and the costs required to develop the animation will not be in vain.
